New York Fashion Week appeared traditionally rich and eventful. Over 7 days more than 100 trend fashion designers could perform their spring-summer 2010 collections. Femlive captures key trends.
Fashionable night
New York Fashion Week began on September 10 with a grand dandies’ celebration Fashion’s Night Out. The main city shops were opened up to 2-3 hours in the night, customers everywhere were treated with champagne and cocktails, many boutiques organized parties with DJs and VIP-clients were provided with incredible discounts. In short, the city lived and breathed with shopping practically overnight. You could find stylish people in T-shirts of the event everywhere. Anna Wintour, American Vogue chief editor, supervised all actions. Due to her invitation, famous designers Narciso Rodriguez and Isaak Mizrahi, maestro of shoes Manolo Blahnik and style icon Victoria Beckham appeared at the party in the cult Bergdorf Goodman department store.
SoHo trend fashion district boutiques met supermodels Bar Rafaeli and Eva Herzigova, actress Sienna Miller and singer Rihanna. Thus, New Yorkers once again confessed their love for shopping and confirmed that their city is definitely considered one of the world’s fashion capitals.
Fashion Week traditionally attracts a large number of celebrities. And viewers will certainly monitor their sympathies, because stars dictate us what will be fashionable no less than designers themselves. This year’s New York Fashion Week also met Madonna. She visited her friend’s Marc Jacobs show, and an eccentric singer Lady Gaga accompanied her. Milla Jovovich could be found at Donna Karan show, Jessica Alba and Courtney Love came to support Narciso Rodriguez, Nicky Hilton chose Jill Stuart show. His “Hollywood” chic dresses attracted Mischa Barton, Hilary Duff, Peaches Geldof, Mena Suvari, and other celebrities.
A footballer Zinedine Zidane even went to the podium during Y3 line show by Yohji Yamamoto, although not as a model … Yamamoto asked Zidane to make a symbolic blow to the ball in the final show. Thus the designer decided to emphasize an athletic component of his trend fashion collection.
Incidentally, it is New York Fashion Week that celebrities always choose to demonstrate their design talents. Still, New Yorkers are favorable to stars. This year, Victoria Beckham and Gwen Stefani, which is working on a LAMB brand, showed their regular collections. The first introduced the public a line of elegant and sophisticated dresses, and the second presented very positive youth things with bias in punk rock.
Also this week, a Canadian singer Avril Lavigne made her debut in the role of fashion designer, and introduced Abbey Dawn clothing line. Her show turned out very bright, explosive and rock ‘n’ Roll. In general, we can conclude that celebrities usually offer their fans the style they prefer themselves.
Trend fashion

So what, according to fashion designers, will be important next summer? First of all, to everyone’s delight, almost all of them are banking on bright colors. Shades of yellow, orange, bright blue and red are particularly popular. Secondly, fashion will offer simple silhouettes with no extra “frills” and complex structural parts. Third, designers have once again voted for mini length, so by next summer we will need to acquire extremely sexy shorts and short skirts. Well, these results seem us quite positive. It remains only to find out whether New York’s fashion designers’ opinion would be supported by their colleagues from Milan, London and Paris. Femlive will be happy to tell you about that.
