New Year is invariably associated with fir. However, besides decorated green beauty, you also have a whole apartment or house, which needs to be dressed up for the holiday. Usually this is concentrated on a gala festive table-cloth and festive service on a table. But New Year is a merry holiday! Femlive will tell you about the way to bring some New Year fun, feeling of pleasant winter fuss and light magic atmosphere to you interior.
During this season glossy magazines give lots of advices on interior decoration. But, as a rule, they require long and careful preparation. We have many pre-New Year matters, so we will try to tell about easy and quick methods to achieve an excellent result.
New Year means winter!
The main thing we need for the New Year is snow. So you have to bring some snow to your apartment’s interior. Drawing it on a window is the easiest way.
Use white gouache dissolved in water, proportion is 1:2. This way it will get a snow-like feeling of lightness and clarity and will lie on glass easily. After holidays are over, you will be able to wash it easily with warm water.
Make several snowflake stencils of different sizes, from the biggest one (up to 30 cm in diameter) to the smallest one (up to 5 cm in diameter). If you cannot draw them by yourself, you always can find pictures in Internet. Make stencils for the following drawing on a window.
To make your work with a stencil comfortable, we recommend you creating it not of simple paper, but of adhesive tape, you can buy it in various office supplies shops. After you stick such tape on a window, it will be much more comfortable to draw through a stencil, as it won’t move, and you can think about the whole window composition at once, not putting snowflakes one after another.
We also do not recommend you using scissors, as this way edges will be crooked and uneven. Paper knife is the ideal variant, but be careful, avoid cutting a table. Cutting on glass is the most comfortable way, but you also can use cardboard, wood or just single-sheet stationery.
Modern technologies followers can just create a necessary drawing on a PC and apply to a specialized office which creates such stencils.
Thus, you will receive a ready and slit drawing, which you will just have to stick to a window. If you think using usual paper in much easier, then try to choose quite thick Whatman, not usual office paper or tetradic sheets.
Now arrange ready stencils on a window chaotically. You can start painting. Never use a brush for it, otherwise you will receive ugly blotchiness and stains on edges. A usual sponge will be quite ok for painting.
Pour dissolved paint in a wide, but fine ware, where you can dip sponge wholly. After you steep a sponge, do not hurry to apply paint on glass. When you paint a snowflake, sponge should not be wet. Ideally, it should be slightly wet.
Blot a sponge and only then apply paint through a stencil on a window. Do not spread on a stencil, but just blot several times on whole surface of a drawing.
New Year means much snow!
To create a feeling of snowy winter on your window, you will also need a snowstorm! In other words, these are small points, which will create a feeling that there’re many many thousands of such snowflakes here. You can make them using same paint and old tooth-brush. Do not forget about gloves, this operation is not a clean one.
Blot a brush in dissolved paint and pass your thumb over bristle to any side. Small drops will fly to the side, opposite to your finger motion, creating that very feeling of a snowstorm.
Do not hurry to apply on a window at once, try experimenting in a bathroom without paint, using simple water. This will help you adjusting to a technique and understanding the degree of brush’s moisture to achieve ideal effect. When you understand the scheme, you can paint your window bravely. And you will not feel sorry about lack of snow in a New Year.
To intensify the feeling of winter, you can add additional white draperies in your holiday interior. These can be usual white bed-sheets or white tulle. Cover arm-chairs and sofas with them, and a felling of snowdrifts will appear by itself.
New Year means gifts!
Can you imagine New Year without gifts?! If you plan to celebrate New Year at a small coffee table, wrap it in holiday paper, like a gift box!
Fasten a big, bright, beautiful bow on one side, and attach a couple of tapes around the table, to supplement a feeling of “gift”. According same principle you can design different bedside-tables and lockers. Two-sided sticky tape will help you a lot. Do not limit yourself in choice of drawings and colors, make everything bright and multi-colored. Feeling of holiday will just be intensified.
New Year means live fir!
Well, the last advice, finally. If you do not choose a natural fir, and prefer an artificial one, bring home several fir branches and put them in a vase with water, like a bunch of flowers. Fir smell will help you supplementing New Year’s atmosphere and will be better than any most refined perfume. And of course, bring more candles and mandarins, essential for this holiday.
